PRAGMA Workshop — 12 November, Net Zero Technology Centre, Aberdeen
PRAGMA hosted a half-day workshop at the Net Zero Technology Centre in Aberdeen, bringing together operators and technology leaders to explore how AI and machine learning are being applied across real energy operations.
The conversation highlighted a clear shift: AI tools are ready, but scaling them across organisations remains challenging. Participants shared examples of high-accuracy, rapid-ROI deployments—from AI-driven P&ID extraction to hybrid emissions monitoring—yet emphasised that data fragmentation, cultural resistance, and limited capacity continue to slow adoption.
A recurring theme was the need to start small and scale deliberately. Targeted pilots are delivering strong results, while broad digital transformation efforts often stall. Regulators are also moving toward continuous, data-driven assurance, increasing the importance of transparent, traceable AI workflows.
The workshop surfaced several best practices: begin with a specific operational problem, keep engineers in the loop, prioritise explainable models, and partner with domain-focused providers who can deliver measurable value quickly.
PRAGMA’s AI & ML in Practice report captures the key insights, case studies, and frameworks discussed in Aberdeen, offering a practical roadmap for energy organisations seeking to move from experimentation to scalable impact.
